Thanks For The Mail

Some of you heard about my father passing away and have written me a lot of very appreciated well-wishes. I'll be writing more about that later, probably when I have better access to the internet. I'm in North Carolina for a while now, dealing with the unexpected turn of events, and record-breaking humidity.

The first issue of MARVEL ADVENTURES FANTASTIC FOUR that I worked on is out, #2. The story was begun by Akira Yoshida who had other things to deal with, so I finished it. You can read me talking to Captain Comics about it here. This is the full version of the article you may have seen in USA Today or other media. Wait until you see that artwork by Carlo Pagulayan, oh man.

Again, I'm a little hard to get in touch with for a while, but thanks again for the concern. All things considered, I'm doing well. Back soon...

No San Diego

I won't be going to Comic-Con after all, due to family crises. If you wanted to get an Interman from me, just find Steve Lieber and he'll do the same sketch I would have. Sorry folks.

It's Coming, like those Death Machines in War of the Worlds

Sweet Christmas, I'll be going to San Diego Comic-Con again in two days. Known now as Nerd Prom, except I never seem to graduate. This will make the 15TH YEAR IN A ROW THAT I'VE BEEN THERE. How did this happen? I've seen kids grow up at that show, companies come and go out of business, little comics grow into massive franchises, artists make asses of themselves... I can only remember about seven of the shows, when I try, yet the records clearly show I've been going for twice that. It got easier once I lived on the West Coast of course, especially when I lived in Los Angeles. But still.

So, when I'm in Artist's Alley, I'll be at table EE-03.

Sometimes I'll be with my studiomates at the Mercury Studio booth, which is #2137. I think we'll be right by the Harris Comics booth and Devil's Due.

And I'll be signing at times at that little upstart indy publisher, Marvel Comics, which has booth 4315.

I'm not sure what I'll be doing about a con report or blogging. Since I'll have my computer, I might make posts from there, and save the trouble of doing a report. They just take so long, sorry. But I might still. Lieber will be the swing vote there. Maybe I'll do some audio blogging again, that was fun. If you see me there, and I don't make any sense, just hand me a coffee and watch me temporarily return to normal. More on this tomorrow.

AMAZING FANTASY #10 IN STORES THIS WEEK!

Hey, I'll stop griping about fireworks fiends long enough to mention that our VAMPIRE BY NIGHT feature debuts in Amazing Fantasy this week. That's art by the talented Federica Manfredi, who will be appearing at Comicon San Diego next week. I'm not sure where yet, but I'll probably know when I'm there, just ask me. I assume she'll be at Devil's Due and Marvel. I'll be in Artist Alley and at the Mercury Studio booth, and probably Marvel. More on my appearance later.

Help Marvel turn back into a monster-book company, and give this feature a look. Yes, the character is related to the Werewolf By Night, and yes, he'll be turning up very soon. And she's not just a vampire in name, she bites a lot of people. Come on in!

Please Shove Those Fireworks Up Your Ass

Fireworks tents have been set up all around the city for weeks, thoroughly arming every yokel with enough low-rent special effects to guarantee no one will sleep the next few nights. I realize that I grew up in a state where only sparklers were legal (it's since succumbed as well), and everyone had to bring in their bottle rockets and M80s from South Carolina, but there was only a little bit of pyrotechnics right on the 4th. Now the whistling and popping just goes on unabated for DAYS like the world's overrun with magnesium addicts huffing flare. I know, they're all celebrating our sweet, sweet, precious freedom. Freedoms. Support the troops, keep your neighbors awake. No one anywhere has to work tomorrow, right?
